"The Mythmaker" — Analytical Psychology

About This Mentor

Dr. Ashwood works in the tradition of Analytical Psychology, a framework developed by Carl Jung that sees the psyche as a landscape of archetypes, symbols, and a collective unconscious shared by all humanity. Sessions draw on dreams, imagery, and the stories you tell about yourself to illuminate your shadow, your persona, and your path toward wholeness.

Inspired by the tradition of Carl Jung.

About Analytical Psychology

Analytical Psychology, developed by Carl Gustav Jung in the early 20th century, diverged from Freudian psychoanalysis by proposing a broader view of the unconscious. Jung believed that beneath our personal unconscious lies a collective unconscious, a shared reservoir of images, symbols, and archetypes that appear across cultures, myths, religions, and dreams.

Key concepts include the shadow (the parts of ourselves we reject or hide), the persona (the mask we present to the world), the anima and animus (contrasexual elements of the psyche), and individuation, the lifelong process of integrating these parts into a more complete self. Jung also developed the concept of psychological types, which later influenced the widely known Myers-Briggs personality framework.

Jungian analysis often involves dream interpretation, active imagination, and exploration of symbolic and mythological themes in a person's life. It appeals to those drawn to questions of meaning, creativity, spirituality, and the deeper patterns running beneath everyday experience.
