Dr. Samuel Hale
"The Witness" — Person-Centered Therapy
About This Mentor
Dr. Hale works in the tradition of Person-Centered Therapy, an approach developed by Carl Rogers built on the belief that you already hold the answers within you. The therapist's role is not to diagnose or direct, but to offer unconditional positive regard, deep empathy, and genuine presence. Sessions are warm, unhurried, and centered entirely on you.
Inspired by the tradition of Carl Rogers.
About Person-Centered Therapy
Person-Centered Therapy, also known as Rogerian therapy or client-centered therapy, was developed by Carl Rogers in the 1940s and 1950s. It represented a radical departure from the directive, expert-driven approaches that dominated psychology at the time. Rogers believed that every person has an innate tendency toward growth and self-actualization, and that the right therapeutic conditions could unlock this potential.
Those conditions, which Rogers called the "core conditions," are unconditional positive regard (accepting the client without judgment), empathic understanding (deeply grasping the client's subjective experience), and congruence (the therapist being genuine and transparent). Rogers argued that when these three conditions are present, therapeutic change naturally follows.
Person-Centered Therapy has had an enormous influence well beyond the consulting room. Rogers' ideas shaped education, conflict resolution, parenting, organizational development, and the broader humanistic psychology movement. His emphasis on empathy and non-judgment remains foundational to virtually all modern therapeutic approaches.
